Has anyone been to a dermatologist? ?

I am going to a dermatologist this week for my face. I have literally tried every acne product out there, including a couple over the counter medications and still nothing has worked and i don't think birth control will help considering that my skin is bad no matter what. So i am wondering if you have been to a dermatologist for your skin? what medication did they give you? did it work? I am desperate!Has anyone been to a dermatologist? ?
dermatologist did amazing things, it probably took about 4 months to clear my skin, but hey its worth it. Has anyone been to a dermatologist? ?
I go to the dermatologist every month. I used to have very severe acne, and they put me on acutane. which i am still on now. i am so happy with the results my skin is very clear now. after the next month of medication, my dermatologist is going to help me clear up some of the scars on my face. But overall the dermatologist will help you no matter what, I used everything to help my acne. And nothing helped, but trust me the dermatologist will get your skin cleared up in no time =)

I've been there, done that a million times for acne. =] You have to remember that dermatology is just trial and error. I've tried tazorac, retin-a micro, differin (I'm currently on that) and proactiv. (hated it). You will probably have to try lots of differnt meds to figure out what you like best, butremember to stick with whatever you use so it can work best. I also take an anti-biotic twice a day to help. I guess it's working the best it can.
Mine gave me a cream called Benzaclin for my acne (2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide)

and it was expensive, but it worked amazingly!

every dermatologist does something different

so ask yours what is good for you
In high school, by doctor prescribed tetracycline for my acne. It worked pretty well.
its the damnatologist, as my Great-grandmother said

have u tryed lemon juice and honey?I have acne, what should i do? is there pills from Dermatologist i can take?
Sometimes they perscribe birth control to reduce acne.

Here's some more information I found:

    http://www.pinkfridge.com/hab_acne/pills鈥?/a>

You might want to go and talk to your derm. and ask what would be the best treatment for you and tell him/her that you would like to take a pill daily to reduce it - and they should work with you.
You should make an appointment with a dermatologist. They have many differents treatments for the type of acne you have. They have creams , pills and some washes with medicine in it to help.
Proactive is the best thing we have tried. All 3 of my children have severe acne as do I and this is the best. I've taken just or used everything that's on the market...even tried prescriptions from a dermatologist. Nothing has ever worked as well as this. Try it and then if it doesn't work, visit a dermatologist. The visit with the dermatologist will be much more expensive than the 1 months worth of proactive solution. When we ordered it, they had a promotional going that gave us a month free to try. Maybe that is still going on. Do a google search for Proactive to see. I hope this helps. Good luck!!
I had problems with acne for about 9 years and tried everything, including antibiotics and various prescription creams, gels and even facials from my dermatologist. Finally, about a year ago, I tried Proactiv. I was a skeptic, but it really worked. My skin started to clear up after about a month, even more so after 3 months and after 6 months, I realized that I hadn't had a pimple in a while. Now my face is totally clear and I might get one small pimple every once in a while, but it's so minor, I don't even care. I didn't think anything would ever work for me, but it really did. I use it exactly as prescribed. I also use the Neutrogena at-home microdermabrasion kit a few times a week. This helps get rid of dry/dead skin cells, which keeps your pores from clogging.
Hi, I know reading giant paragraphs suck so here are some things you can do in list form!

-Do not have tons of sugar in your diet

-Try not to touch your face with your fingers

    -Exercise

-Wash your face no more than twice a day with a mild to strong soap. use soap that is made for severe acne.

-After you wash apply a blemish spot treatment (clearsil ultra works the best) to the affected areas

-For big pimples, ice will reduce the swelling

-a dab of tooth paste will also reduce the size of pimples over night

-Eye medication will take redness our of big pimples for a little bit.
My step son has really bad acne, and the dermatologist has given him accutane and it has really helped. He has to take it everyday, and for a specified amount of time. This is suppose to dry up the oil glands in the face, and that helps cut down on the acne. So go talk to your dermatologist and see what they have to say. They also have a topical gel that works great that's called Clindagel. Good Luck!!
Your doctor can prescribe birth control pills, antibiotics, or Accutane for you. My derm put me on birth control and that really helped clear up my skin. I tried antibiotics first and they did nothing for me, but everyone's different and they may work for you.

Accutane is a very powerful drug and it dries out your skin quite a bit. My friend took it for awhile and actually became depressed while on it. I know there have been reports of similar incidents from people while on Accutane before, but then again, there are lots of people who take it with no side effects. I believe it's only prescribed as a last resort for those with really serious acne.

Regardless of the method you choose, I'd recommend washing your face once a day with a glycolic cleanser, such as Serious Skin Care's version. This will help clear your pores but won't dry out your skin.

What should be my high-educational route if i want to be a dermatologist?

    should i go to a local college? [ a 2 year college]

or should i go to a 4 year college

and does it even matter, i mean i will have to go to medical school anyways

can anyone please explain the best educational route if i want to be a dermatologistWhat should be my high-educational route if i want to be a dermatologist?
Dermatology is the MOST COMPETITIVE RESIDENCY.

First you want to go to college for 4 years and get a bachelors. You want to maintain at least a 3.6 GPA and your Junior year you take the MCATS which you should aim for a 30+.

Then you apply to medical school and if you get in its 4 more years. The first 2 years are all book work and then the next 2 are clinical rotations.

YOU Basically have to be number 1 or number 2 in medical school to even get a shot at dermatology residency.

If youve made it this far, its another 4 years. You work anywhere from 80-110 hours a week. And you only make 40k a year. What should be my high-educational route if i want to be a dermatologist?
Yes -- it matters. Medical schools take many things into consideration. GPA and MCAT are only part of the story. Medical Schools also look at the quality of your undergraduate program.

Not only should you go to a four-year program rather than a community college -- but you should go to the best university that you can get into.

Does it pay off to become a dermatologist?

i really want to become one but i just dont know about going to school for so long!..i just want to know if its worth it.Does it pay off to become a dermatologist?
If you really think it's what you want to do, it's worth it. However, you should realize that dermatology is one of the most competitive medical specialties due to the great hours an lifestyle it provides. Therefore, not only do you have to get through med school, you have to excel to be competitive for a derm residency. My best advice would be to shadow a dermatologist to really see what they do on a daily basis and talk to them about their experiences to see if it seems like something you'd like to do, and if the hard work you'll have to put it will be worth it to you.

Is it better to go to a dermatologist for skin care or to a salon?

If you are having skincare problems or if you are uncertain of ingredients in skincare products you may want to schedule an appointment with a dermatologist. Otherwise a consultation with a skincare professional may be all you need. Is it better to go to a dermatologist for skin care or to a salon?
    DERMATOLOGIST

They actually know what they're talking about and it's their profession.

Salons just sell you the products and they're not as educatedIs it better to go to a dermatologist for skin care or to a salon?
Dermatologist. Because they know how to care for skin properly. They are trained to do that.

Should my friend/neighbor see a dermatologist about this?

She says she has a reddish rash on her left side, beneath her breast, about where her liver would be.( I have not seen it, so I'm going by her description.) She says it's almost perfectly round, with whitish spots here and there that come and go--she says they look like dry skin, but the skin surface is smooth. It does not itch or hurt. She's seen a naturopath who gave her a liver tonic-type-thing--it didn't do anything. Also, she has briefly had the same thing occur on the same side of her body, about at the hipbone. So it's not really bothering her, but she's understandably worried. Does this ring a bell for anybody? What kind of doctor should she consult?

By the way, she has a very healthy lifestyle and diet.

Any ideas?? Thanks..Should my friend/neighbor see a dermatologist about this?
I would tell her to go to her regular doctor and have him refer her to the correct specialist. It sounds a bit like a skin rash I had, but there is no way of knowing unless you go to a doc. And I think a dermatologist would probably be the best bet.Should my friend/neighbor see a dermatologist about this?
Yes, she needs to visit a dermatologist. She could have any number of skin conditions from eczema to ring worm or a similar fungal infection.
Yes, YOU should go see a doctor.
ALWAYS see a doctor when you have questions, and a dermatologist would be a great start. This could be the symptom of an underlying condition, or could also be skin cancer. You should always check out things that don't seem right because many illnesses have symptoms that DON'T cause pain or discomfort
First a generalist in my opinion. A Dermatologist is a good idea, but generally (if you don't already have a dermatologist) you need to pass by a generalist before going to a specialized branch. Furthermore, maybe it will ring a bell for the generalist and send her instead to a i.e.neurologue or another specialist that you and her hadn't thought about. I would definitely consult anyway.
It may be a fungal infection (candida). The liver is located in the right not left side. Thanks.
It could be a case of eczema... If so there are treatments that can be effective... She should go see her regular doctor who should be able to determine whether a prescription will clear it up or if she should continue on to a dermatologist....
