My son was prescribed Retin-A for acne. It is really harsh on his skin and his dermatologist is out of town.?

Does anyone know if it can be mixed with lotion or a moisturizer prior to applying to the face? Thank you!My son was prescribed Retin-A for acne. It is really harsh on his skin and his dermatologist is out of town.?
Yes, it can be used with a moisturizer. Try using one that is hypo-alergenic and oil-free. Neutogena makes a good one that also has SPF 15 sunscreen in it, which he should be using anyway with a product such as retin-A which increases sensitivity to sunlight. My son was prescribed Retin-A for acne. how often is he applying it. that sort of creme is harsh when applied too often and there is currently not enough oil for the med to work on so it goes after the skin. try using it every other day or as often as needed to be comfortable w/o too much oil.
call his family physician and ask them
Stop using the prescribed medication if it doing more harm than good.
he should be really careful about exposure to the sun. that can make him turn red quickly. if the irritation keeps up, have him stop taking it until you can talk to his doctor.
How long has he been on it?

It sometimes looks worse before it gets better. If he's having alot of skin irritation I would try using it every other day, until your dermatologist is back in town. But it is an excellent way to clear up acne, so don't give up on it, just cut back the number of times using it for now, so his skin can adjust.
Can't you call the pharmacy?
