Will they give me a perscription for my pimples and do perscriptions work?? Cuz i have used proactive and it worked for the first week and stopped after that and now i have alot pimples and will they drill into my skin to try and get rid of the acne and will the pimples seem really red for a while since they will drill into my skin cause that is what my dad saidI am gonna see a dermatologist FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN?

No worries, the dermatologist will likely just look (visually) at the problem areas and take a small skin scape (painless). Once the doctor has had time to review your case, he or she will make the final judgment as to what type of medication will work best for you. Although I do not have any personal experience with acne, I have read extensive reviews on various pharmacological interventions or treatments. It may take trying a few different medications - but you will eventually find one that works. Since there is great variation between medications - it is impossible to say what medication will: a. be benifical to you, or b. cause side effects - such as dry skin.
No, they most definitely will not drill into your skin. They probably won't do anything at the office to try to make the pimples go away.

it actually depends. i have been to 3 different dermatologists. some prescription worked fine, some did not. if it did not work, you have to go back to you dermatologist, or you have to be sure to go back on the check-up date that the derma told you. procedures on acne, would vary from case to case. there are a lot of options available right now. make sure u go to a reputable dermatologist.
Hahaha... drill into the skin? Ummm... no. They might do a scraping to make sure there's not infection... and if your acne is very severe they'll probably put you on acutane. I have 2 friends who took it in high school. It will clear up your acne, but you'll have to use sunscreen and chapstick religiously while you're on it.

Just spent about a half hour calling around dermatology offices in NY on my plan website and all seem closed the day after Thanksgiving and on the weekend.

The best thing to do is look in the phone book or research a dermatologist in your area. This isn't the best place to find what you are looking for.

This is strictly opinion. I agree with the above answers. Dermatologists can remove a skin tag or a mole and it gets billed as a minor surgery. The appearance to me is that most routine dermotology appointments are simple acne, psoriasis, mole screens,and cosmetic patients. An ID docs patients are probably more time consuming and complicated. Dermatology is a very difficult specialty to get into. But don't let that stop you from trying. Dermatology is a ';clean'; specialty dealing with the skin only, while infectious disease can get ';nasty'; at times and can involve other problems. I work in a derm office and we refer people to the ID when we can solve the problem. So it is highly rewarding to cure someones ongoing condition. Good luck to you and congratulations of choosing a noble profession.
Because there is more of a market for dermatologists. They offer laser peels and crap when no one has a mojor desease, and in big city's rich ladys will pay for it.
The market is not need based for a dermatologist. You can sell a desire that peopel percieve to be a need.

No,necessarily you wouldn't be able to pursue both careers due to the fact that you can only pick one specialty and residency position after medical school.Dermatology and Plastic surgery are actually completely different practices.Do you like improving the looks of others?Do you mind blood guts and gore?You can't really base it on salary because Dermatologists and Plastic surgeons both eventually start there own practices and bring in a certain amount of money depending on how many patients they have.Plastic Surgery usually is a hard residency to get into after medical school,from what I've heard.There isn't much of a difference in their education other than some Plastic Surgeons may complete fellowships after residency,which take more time but they are optional.It ultimately comes down to what area you think you would succeed in more.By the time you get to medical school and learn more about the fields you will be able to make a better decision...Good luck!Should i be a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon?
The problem with doing both is the amount of school involved and the fact that you really won't be able to perform your best. You could work towards plastic surgeon and take some electives in dermatology.
If you decide that you want plastic surgery, then you are going to need to pick a speciality within that field, like reconstruction or something. Plastic surgery though I think will leave you a lot more open to malpractice lawsuits. It also is a longer residency, were talking around 8 years schooling minimum.
Dermatology on the other hand is a rather straight forward education which is 2 years shorter. The pay is not quite as high, but you would save money in insurance, not to mention that there is a wider need for dermatologists then plastic surgeons.
