Does any one know how many years of school you need to be a dermatologist?

Hey, in order to be a dermatologist you have to follow the typical path of any other doctor. In addition to your twelve years of schooling after which you graduate high school, you spend an additional 4 years at an undergraduate institution (college). Many students choose to take a few ';years off'; after college, but that's optional. After completion of your premedical requirements and you major requirements, and after successfully taking the MCAT test, a person can go to a medical school, which lasts for usually 4 years.

The general MD degree that is obtained upon graduation from medical school is not sufficient to practice dermatology right away. You must participate in a residency program, in which you specialize. The process takes 3-7 years in general. It might be 3-5 for dermatology specifically. After the residency, you are well qualified to practice dermatology, however, a few people choose to subspecialize. You basically become a superexpert, so the layperson thinks anyway. It's a long road, but if that's what you choose after exploring other options, go for it.

--One more thing, if you choose to be premed as an undergrad, you DO NOT have to be a science major. Anything that interests you, you can do- as long as you take the required premed courses.Does any one know how many years of school you need to be a dermatologist?
Not exacty sure; but 2 years for undergrad...then 4 years med school, then you have to ';specialize';...i think. Might depend on your demography (where you are).Does any one know how many years of school you need to be a dermatologist?
It would usually be 4 more years as a Resident after your MD. So some variables there but 12 schooling, 1-3 + years Pre-med, 4 years Medicine, 1-2 years internship or some places straight to your residency for 4 more years. Some place encourage Internal Medicine also. So minimum time about 22 years, starting from Grade 1, so you'd be about 28 years old, if no skipping grades, etc.
A derm is an MD. So you go college and get a degree in biology, chemistry or some science. Go to med school for 4 years. Then do a 4 yr. residency. so 12yrs if you are lucky. More like 15 yrs.
i don't know more then 4 I'm sure
