My Ob says dont scratch stretch marks, my dermatologist says scratching wont do anything whos right?

The dermatologist. Some people don't realize that stretch marks occur from an inner layer of skin, not the epidermis (top layer), that's why there's not much that can be done about them, and topical creams don't work if you were meant to get them.My Ob says dont scratch stretch marks, my dermatologist says scratching wont do anything whos right?
DONT SCRATCH!!!!!!!!!! It makes the stretch marks worse and wobbly, and to avoid them apply moisturizer twice a day preferably after showering. My Ob says dont scratch stretch marks, my dermatologist says scratching wont do anything whos right?
your ob says don't scratch because the scratches can get infected. this can cause more scarring. use coco butter and maybe a little cortisone cream. don't want more scares do you. dermatologist like scares, good for business.
The dermatologist would be the one who would know, unless they aren't a good doctor. You can irritate the skin further if you scratch them though. If you stretch A LOT, they can start to open up.. but that is very rare (it can happen with multiple births).
When in doubt, err on the side of caution and don't scratch. Rub lotion into them instead.
Why cant you scratch them?

I would say the dermatologist. They are scars.. and they will always be there. They will fade over time.
When they are fresh, and you scratch them, they do turn darker red and hurt for a couple days. That is what I've noticed during my pregnancy. When in doubt, don't scratch. Just apply lotion.
I'd say, from experience, the main reason not to scratch them is that they easily become irritated, and you wind up with raw, even itchier skin than before you scratched. I don't know that it'd make the stretch marks worse as far as scarring in the long run, but it sure can make them FEEL worse in the right now.
well most people said do not stretch mark cause it will make it worst and if it's itchy dont stretch it too...
i think u can scratch them. and if u put cocoa butter on them 2wice everyday they go away after awhile.
Your Ob is not a skin specialist - your dermatologist is. I'd be going with the dermatologist.
