How long will it take to become a nurse, then becoming a dermatologist?

let's say you become a nurse [ how long will that take]

then after you've worked as a nurse and saved some money [ about 5 more years]

then you wanted to go back to medical school to become a dermatologist

HOW long will that take you [ including the extra 5 years working]

and do you have any other suggestions?

thanks :)How long will it take to become a nurse, then becoming a dermatologist?
All together I would guess at least 16 years, but I could easily see it taking 20 before you are actually a doctor.

Nurse- 3-4 years for associates degree (1-2 years prerequisites, 2 year nursing program, or 4-5 year for bachelors

Working- 5 years

Additional classes needed to get into med school that aren't part of nursing - 1-2 years if you already have the bachelors, at least 2 years if you need to get the bachelors

Med school - 4 years

Residency- I am not sure, I will guess 2 years possibly longer

I would either just try for med school with PA school as a back up, or go for nursing and potentially go back to school to become a nurse pracitioner or a physicians assistant. They are really two different tracks, and that is a lot of time to spend on something that isn't going to help you towards your main goal. How long will it take to become a nurse, then becoming a dermatologist?
You can become a nurse (RN) in either a 2-year or 4-year program. You will need a 4-year degree to go on to medical school for dermatology.

You can just go for four year, do the pre-med requirements and the nursing and get your bachelor's degree, then work.Or to save money, do a 2-year program at a community college and then work while you finish your bachelor's degree.

Medical school is 4 years.

Then you do a year of internship, then 2-3 years of residency, the last 1-2 of which are in dermatology. You get paid for these years.

If you want to go for dermatology, try to get your nursing job on a derm floor in the hospital.

Also, don't say your career goal is to be a dermatologist when you apply to nursing school. They will give preference to people who want nursing careers.
