A skin problem on one side of the body is rare, unless it is caused by shingles. Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox, which is Herpes zoster.

H.Z.

Shingles tends to follow the course of a nerve, and affects the area ennervated by that nerve, which is known as the dermatome.

In this case, the physician is describing the location of the skin erruption through the identification of the involved dermatome, the fifth thoracic.

T5.

Check the dermatome diagram at the link.A man has a skin problem on his left side of the chest and back, the dermatologist has diagnosed it as H.Z.T5?
Herpes Zoster (aka shingles), T5- in the area of the 5th vertebrae of the thorax (trunk) region...
